Sand in my Supper
Life lessons from the world’s toughest foot race
Looking for inspiration? Has your team or your organisation lost its optimism, enthusiasm, determination or sense of enjoyment? Or simply run out of steam?
In March 2007 at the age of 66, Jim Ewan completed the world’s toughest foot race; the Marathon des Sables in the Sahara Desert, carrying food and equipment for 7 days over approximately 250 km.
A unique experience. During his time in the desert, Jim experienced pain, comradeship, laughter, tears, elation and despair. He came back changed and with a deeper understanding of what it takes to succeed. Jim freely confesses he is no Ernest Shackleton, yet he learned more about goal-setting, teamwork and personal responsibility in this one week than in his previous six decades on the planet.
You can share. Jim now shares his experiences and the lessons he has learned through his new keynote talk:
‘Sand in my Supper’ - a different kind of message from a different kind of speaker.
Do the stuff that works
“If you are not in business for fun or profit, what are you doing here?”
Robert Townsend
So how much fun are you having; how much profit are you making?
Jim has been around for a long time. Long enough to have made most of the mistakes it is possible to make and, hopefully, long enough to learn a little. Despite his confessing, “The longer I live the more I realise how little I know.” Jim has picked up some useful ideas over the years. One of his major realisations is that we all have more potential than we think; in other words, we are better than
we give ourselves credit for.
Beginning with a ‘get rich quick’ theme – Filthy Rich by Christmas – ‘Do the stuff that works’ looks at the way humans operate, why sometimes we aren’t effective, and what we can do about it. This presentation is about helping your people understand what we ‘know’, how we get it wrong, why people are weird, why people are wonderful and how to make dreams, personal and organisational, come true!
After one of Jim’s sessions, delegates have achieved more than they thought possible and leave inspired to take action. Results, attitudes and enjoyment all show measurable improvement – and that’s guaranteed.
After Dinner (or lunch!)
When you feel you have earned a little light entertainment!
Yes, he does own a dinner jacket! And his stories, while often hilarious, will never
bring a blush to a maiden’s cheek. All of Jim’s material comes from his personal experience (because you couldn’t make this stuff up)
